Project

Final major project for BA(Hons) Graphic Communication

Year

2022

Context: this project was a self-devised brief for my final major project as an undergraduate. Inspired by a personal appreciation for nature & the outdoors. Created in 2022 following soon after the social & economic impacts of covid-19.

The Problem:

With holidays abroad still proving risky and uncertain for UK inhabitants, research shows many people are looking to ‘staycation’ in the UK. Many people are also struggling with their mental health due to social isolation and financial uncertainty.

In addition, the UK hospitality industry has been hit hard by covid-19, particularly in small & rural locations.

Meanwhile, our National Parks are free, located closely to those communities most impacted by the economic effects of covid-19, and time spent outdoors is proven to improve mental health.

The Solution:

The ‘National Parks Collection’ is a campaign which would be created in partnership with the UK National Parks. It employs gamification and collection incentives to engage people in our parks, rewarding them for visits and special events/achievements.

Visual inspiration is taken from the distinct identities and style seen in many US National Parks.

Physical badges can be purchased, and serve as donations back into the parks. Increased tourism would have a knock-on effect on money spent in rural towns & communities, helping to revitalise the financial impacts of covid-19.
